What Is “Sumiyume”? -2020-

“Sumi-Yume” began in 2016 on the occasion of the opening of the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Katsushika Hokusai was an artist who pursued a universe of phenomena. Like little ink-painted dreams colored in by people from various walks of life, we aim to paint the Sumida area in vivid colors while connecting people who are active not only in the arts and culture, but in all types of expression.

This year is the 260th anniversary of Hokusai’s birth. With the Sumida River and Hokusai as our two principal themes, we’ll be presenting a wide variety of projects – either in town or online – over a period of about six months. While opening up new paths of creativity, the Sumi-Yume Project will make its way to you and towards the future. Share in the excitement!
